Adventures Missions and Retreats (AMR Ministries) began like most  movements do- People seeing a need, then meeting that need.
Several years ago, Scott and Staci Huggins, while on a vacation with family in a small beach community in Costa Rica encountered more than just the sun, surf and sand. They encountered people in need. People that needed the leadership of someone or some organization to come along side them and partner with them in community and spiritual development.  It was on that trip that the Huggins’ found their lives profoundly transformed by God calling them into service, inspiring them to seek out a way to provide life change to others, in both North America and Central America, the vision for AMR Ministries was birthed.
By using each of their talents, they serve others, by reaching and teaching people about Christ through hunting, fishing and outdoor Adventures, Missions and Retreats.
Our founders Scott and Staci Huggins, are a couple from North Texas that have been very involved in church leadership for the last 21 years including the following: Sunday school teachers, Children Ministry Leaders, Summer Camp Coordinators, Volunteer Coordinators, Youth Group Leaders, Home Team and Life Group Hosts and Teachers, Sports and Recreation Coordinators and Coaches, Ministry Leadership Team member of Grace Fellowship Church and on the Board of Elders for Beach Community Church and Casa Vida Church. He has had experience in machined parts manufacturing industries, as well as Oil and Gas Information Services. A strong desire to teach the Bible and a high energy level compliment his successful business experiences and his passion for serving others.
Staci has been a successful homemaker managing a very active family, with experience in volunteer coordination, accounting and bookkeeping. Integrity, coordinating, planning and execution combined with the passion of serving others are at the top of her qualifications. In short, Staci gets it done!
AMR exists to provide the people of churches, communities, and families a bridge to people in need, a way to answer the calling to serve and to give and to make a difference in God’s kingdom.
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”  James 1:22
As Scott and Staci began to share this vision, a number of people and organizations surfaced who felt such a calling and were looking for a way to fulfill it. With these people, they began to wonder what might happen if a new concept of missions was presented, one with a very clear and innovative direction that was captivating enough to capture thousands of people.
What If?   We began to wonder what if?
  • An organization was created that leveraged its relationships with thousands of people who were educated and challenged to make a difference?
  • A committed network of churches, communities and organizations decided to focus on key issues and adopt individuals or families in need?
  • Those churches partnered with communities such that they might meet and work together to discover and address the needs of that community?
  • Those with a heart for helping others had a relevant and exciting outlet that provided the means for them to actually put their passion into action?
  • The people involved in this, could address the issues of the present while providing a hope for not only this life but for the eternity beyond?
Could we move the needle in that one area in such a way that the rest of the world would take notice and ask, “What happened there? Why is that person or community different?”…….Imagine.

It is our hope that organizations will find a freshly innovative take on the concept of missions. In partnering with us,  organizations find themselves with a very accessible way to actually go and serve, not just once, but by building a lifelong relationship. When a church or organization commits its time and resources to another village or community and travels there to know the people, to live with them for a while, to help in meeting their greatest needs, then it is no longer just a mission; it’s a relationship. In partnering with AMR, you are opening the door to life-changing, culture-changing relationships.
Our core tenets are to identify, develop and partner with local indigenous community leadership.
We learned quickly that we can only be as effective as the leaders we work with.  Another core principle is to “enable the self-developing capabilities of the people we serve.”  In order to do that, we’re careful not to do for communities what they can do for themselves. Said another way… we will measure our success not by what we do, but by what they do for themselves. That, in our view, is true development.
This strategy extends through the deployment of the 5 impact areas for every community.
  • Health
  • Housing
  • Education
  • Micro-Enterprise
  • Spiritual Development
At AMR, we believe that our personal relationship with God is directly proportionate to our service to His people. “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.  A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39
He has commanded us to use what is given to us to serve His people, and this command is the core of our organization. Our staff is comprised of people who recognize God’s call to service and who want to answer that call by using their gifts to minister to others. “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” 1 Peter 4:10
We share a heart for the communities of North and Central America and a passion to build lasting relationships with the people we encounter there in an effort to help spur them on to change.  “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” Galatians 5:13

We believe in the one ever-living, eternal God: infinite in power, holy in nature; and possessing absolute, invisible deity. This eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
I John 5:7; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 3:7-11

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of a virgin; that He lived a sinless life, was crucified on Calvary for our sins, and bodily rose from the grave; and that He has been exalted to the throne of God where He is the only mediator between God and man. We believe that through His death and life we have personal salvation and power for victorious living.
John 1:1,14, 20:28; I Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5-6; I Timothy 2:5

We believe that the Holy Spirit is active in the world today and that the baptism of the Holy Spirit, with His accompanying gifts, is the privilege of all believers.
Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11; Mark 16:17; Acts 1:5,2:1-4, 17, 38-39, 8:14-17, 10:38, 44-47, 11:15-17, 19:1-6

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, a divine revelation from God to man. We accept the Scriptures as the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21; Proverbs 30:5; Romans 16:25-26

We believe that all men have sinned and stand in need of redemption, which is obtained through the new birth by faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Those repenting of sin and being born again become Children of God.
Ephesians 2:8; Galatians 2:1, 3:8; Romans 10:10; Acts 1:31

Christians are people who have invited the Lord Jesus Christ to come and live inside them by His Holy Spirit.
They relinquish the authority of their lives over to Him thus making Jesus the Lord of their life as well as Savior.
They put their trust in what Jesus accomplished for them when He died, was buried, and rose again from the dead.
John 12:12; John 14:1,23; John 1:4; R?omans 8:11; Revelation 3:20

We believe the church has been called out of the world to be a group of people who follow Jesus Christ.
These Christ-followers, through the power of the Holy Spirit, will affect genuine spiritual change in their communities.
As the body of Christ on earth, the church offers hope to humanity. The church is one group of people made up of many members, diverse in their gifts and callings of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23

The Holy Spirit is manifested through a variety of spiritual gifts to build and sanctify the church, demonstrate the validity of the resurrection, and confirm the power of the Gospel. The Bible lists of these gifts are not necessarily exhaustive, and the gifts may occur in various combinations. All believers are commanded to earnestly desire the manifestation of the gifts in their lives. These gifts always operate in harmony with the Scriptures and should never be used in violation of Biblical parameters.
Hebrews 2:4; Romans 1:11, 12 :4-8; Ephesians 4:16; I Timothy 4:14; II Timothy 1:6-7; I Corinthians 12:1-31, 14:1-40; I Peter 4:10

Our Core Values

The Word
God’s word is truth; it is living and active and it transforms lives. The Gospel revealed through the living Word, Jesus Christ, and communicated in the written word, The Bible; calls us to repentance and ushers us into abundant life as we trust in Him. The word of God leads people toward spiritual maturity as the word is heard, read, studied, memorized and meditated upon. (Joshua 1:8, 2 Timothy 3:16, Romans 1:16)
Worshiping God is our response to His initiative in our lives. We worship and celebrate as we experience God working in us and through us. We worship God through prayer, writing, music, art and as we live lives that glorify Him. (Psalm 63:1-5, Romans 12:1, Phil 4:6-7, John 15:7)
Life Together
People need a community of relationships where they can be authentic, discover Truth, grow in maturity and be safely cared for as they walk through life. True community is more than a Bible study; it also includes prayer, fellowship, worship, fun, mission, and care. (Acts 2:42-47, Hebrews 10:24-25)
Missional Community
The church, as the people of God, was never meant to bunker in behind the walls of a building, but instead called to go out and penetrate culture with the Gospel. In love, the community builds authentic relationships that provide opportunities to share faith and impact culture. In faithfulness, the people use their God-given gifts to carry out the ministry of the church. (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8, Ephesians 4:5-16, Colossians 4:2)
Prayer is personal and corporate communication with God that acknowledges our complete dependence on Him. Through prayer we communicate our requests to God, confess our sins to Him and give Him adoration, praise and thanksgiving. God desires that through prayer our trust in Him will increase, that our love for Him will grow and our lives will be more aligned with His will. Finally prayer involves us in God’s kingdom and redemptive activities, reminding us that converting individuals and growing churches are His work. (2 Chronicles 7:14; Matthew 11:24, 21:22; Luke 11:9-12; John 15:7; Acts 2:42; Philippians 4:6-7; James 5:16)
We believe that a network of committed churches and organizations partnering with communities and villages in North and Central America can make a difference. We believe that this focused, single country approach will not only change the lives of God’s children, but also transform the hearts and minds of the church through service to His Kingdom.
